Day 1: On the road to the Mayo

After what’s felt like years of waiting, we’re finally on the road. Ironically, the last 2-3 days have felt like a few seconds; a rush of last-minute logistics, a wave of calls; a blur of time.

When I say we’re finally on the road, I couldn’t be more literal. T-Mobile has given us a trial of their mobile broadband service allowing us to remain in contact with the pixelalted world wherever we are with the T-Mobile® webConnect™ Rocket 2.0 HSPA+ USB Laptop Stick. Granted, the term broadband is a bit of a stretch. Perhaps “mobile dial-up emulator” provides a better sense of speed. Nevertheless, the service is reliable enough for our needs as we head north on I-435 in the middle of Missouri with Sadi at the wheel.

We had every intention of leaving at 7:30 a.m. this morning. I must have been in a dream when I came up with that plan. No wonder Sadi laughed when I said as much yesterday. The drive should take around 10 hours; at our current pace, we should be arriving around 9 p.m. Any odds on that happening?

Thanks for listening.
